Christmas Programme
Christmas Programme (26th November 2023 – 2nd January 2024)
Festive Joy in the Heart of Ormskirk
The Christmas Programme in Ormskirk was a joyous celebration of community, creativity, and the festive spirit. Running from 26th November 2023 to 2nd January 2024, this beautifully curated series of events captured the essence of the season, drawing visitors to Ormskirk Parish Church and Church Street. The town’s historic heart was transformed into a vibrant Christmas wonderland, where tradition met innovation, and families of all ages could enjoy a variety of activities that made this festive period unforgettable.
Key Events:
Lighting Installation & Christmas Tree Festival: The highlight of the Christmas programme was the dazzling lighting installation at Ormskirk Parish Church. The church’s historic architecture was bathed in a stunning array of lights, creating an enchanting atmosphere that illuminated the town’s heritage. This breath-taking display formed the perfect backdrop for the Christmas Tree Festival, which ran throughout the Christmas season. Visitors had the opportunity to explore the church’s rich history and the festival became a place of reflection, community pride, and a celebration of the season’s generosity.
The Snowman – Performed by the Fairey Band: A truly magical highlight of the Christmas programme was the live performance of The Snowman by the Fairey Brass Band. Held at the iconic Ormskirk Parish Church, this event brought Raymond Briggs' beloved Christmas story to life through the soul-stirring music of the brass band. The familiar, heart-warming tale of a boy and his snowman was enhanced with live music, captivating the audience and creating a sense of wonder that resonated with both children and adults alike. The event was an enchanting blend of music, storytelling, and festive spirit that left everyone with a sense of Christmas magic. This performance became one of the most anticipated events of the season, drawing families together and creating lasting memories.
Christmas Fun and Games: The Christmas programme also included an array of festive fun and games, which coincided perfectly with the town’s Christmas light switch-on. As the lights twinkled along the high street, families were invited to participate in a variety of interactive activities, including the popular Snow Globe, a magical immersive experience that transported visitors into a winter wonderland. These activities bridged the gap between the festive events at the church and the bustling high street, ensuring that the Christmas celebrations felt connected and seamless throughout the town.
Why It Was Special:
The Christmas Programme in Ormskirk was special because it captured the essence of the season: warmth, togetherness, and joy. It brought the community together in a shared celebration, blending tradition with new experiences in a way that appealed to all ages. The programme showcased the best of Ormskirk, with its historic Parish Church becoming the centrepiece of the Christmas festivities.
